Becoming a Homeowner

Families wanting to be considered for a Habitat home must first complete an application to the Family Selection Committee. The Committee interviews families, evaluates applications, and recommends families to the Board of Directors for selection as a Habitat partner family, based upon need for adequate housing. Once the family has been selected, the Family Support Committee offers guidance as needed. A selected family must contribute "sweat equity" toward the construction of a Habitat project or other approved activities consistent with the abilities of the family, and must be otherwise willing to partner with Habitat.

In addition to the selection criteria mentioned above, in order to be eligible for consideration by the Family Selection Committee the applicant must be a resident of Phelps County, be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident, must have reliable income within our upper and lower income limits, must not have had a bankruptcy or foreclosure in the last three years, and no one who would live in the Habitat house can be listed on a sex offender registry.

Building floor plans are selected according to the needs of the family.

If you are interested in submitting an application, please provide your name, mailing address, email address and phone number, by calling (573) 368-5110, or by emailing us at habitat@rollanet.org.  We will then notify you when we begin taking applications for our next house.
